Unhealthy eating habits can harm a person's health and well-being in various ways. Some examples of unhealthy eating habits are binge eating, skipping meals, restricting food intake, or consuming excessive amounts of junk food. These habits can lead to physical health problems such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions. They can also affect a person's mental and emotional health by causing low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. Therefore, it is important to develop healthy eating habits that support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

  • Why should you work with a dietitian?

Dietitians are specialized health care professionals that focus on how food is utilized by the body. Collaborating with a registered dietitian will help you you recover from an eating disorder or from disordered eating.

Certain disease states and patterns of eating impact how our body uses food as well as how that impacts overall health. A Registered Dietitian is able to work with you to improve your nutrition and health through medical nutrition therapy.

When someone does not have balanced meal patterns it impacts all areas of life. It can impact mood, making people more tired, irritable, and unfocused. It impacts body metabolism and slows down the GI system which can cause uncomfortable GI symptoms. Overall disordered eating habits decrease your quality of life.

  • How does a dietitian help someone with an eating disorder?

A dietitian can help you identify and change harmful eating behaviors into acts that nourish your body and support your life. The dietitian will work with you to help you properly nourish yourself and can address symptoms of malnutrition, GI upset, and vitamin or mineral deficiency.
